MICHES. - On Wednesday morning, President Luis Abinader led the presentation of Promiches, an initiative that seeks the definitive take-off of tourism in Miches, with an investment of more than one billion dollars.
The ambitious project contemplates the construction of 4,551 hotel and residential rooms, brings together leading local and foreign tourism entrepreneurs to turn Miches into a prosperous and sustainable destination.
During the construction process, more than 9,000 direct and indirect jobs will be generated, and approximately 5,000 new jobs will be created once all the projects are operating.
The President guaranteed that the Government is committed to provide the necessary public services to transform this locality into an example of alliance for development.
He said that Miches is undoubtedly home to one of the most impressive natural beauties of the country, with an immense untapped development potential that has postponed the development of many Dominicans.
"How much time has passed and Miches was forgotten? But this is going to change, now and forever," said President Abinader.
He said that there is no more room for excuses for Miches, "they are the beginning of what I am sure will be one of the best tourism alliances of the Government".
He thanked each of the entrepreneurs, who through Promiches, are willing to use their entrepreneurial capacity, experience, economic resources and contacts, confident in the commitment to start a new change in favor of all Dominicans.
He said that, together with the initiatives of Pedernales and Bergantín, the tourism development of Miches is part of a tourism diversification strategy.
They are based on the principle of conservation, attracting foreign investment, increasing the added value of the tourist, but, above all, creating jobs and population mobility.
"This sector is based on our current strengths, both in our natural and human wealth, in our joy, service, hard work and the desire to progress of all Dominicans," said the president.
He considered that the country needs to tell its story better and that only by showing what we are, what we have and what we want as a nation, all together hand in hand, will we be able to tell a credible story that is contagious and invites others to be part of this great transformation.
The Promiches businessmen thanked President Abinader, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and the other officials present for their support and commitment, stressing the importance of initiating such an important tourism development on the basis of planning and a joint vision.
Dimension of the agreement
This commitment is contained in the signing of an agreement between the public and private sectors, which also initiates the implementation of the Miches Development Plan.
In this way, the government and the private sector take concrete steps for the responsible development of tourism in this municipality.
The signing ceremony was led by President Abinader, accompanied by the Minister of Tourism and other officials.
Minister Collado also explained that the private sector investments include the construction of 3,128 new hotel rooms and 1,423 residential rooms.
He said that the commitments made are unprecedented, which will turn Miches into one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Dominican Republic.

On his side, Yamil Isaías, president of Promiches, valued the support and determination of the Government to promote these comprehensive and horizontal actions and plans, loaded with a true social sense capable of transforming the lives of the people.
"Promiches will be the strong advocate of this new way of tourism. Today we celebrate a new Miches that does not need yachts to survive, a new tourist pole," he assured.
Also speaking at the event was Shaney Peña, from the Ministry of Tourism, who gave an explanation of the technical part of the Integral Plan for the Tourist Development of Miches.
Meanwhile, the tourism businessman Frank Elías Rainieri, referring to the Playa Esmeralda project, invited all the businessmen to invest in this sector, while he emphasized that with this project, the Dominican capitals say present and bet on the tourism growth of the country.

Likewise, Rafael Blanco, gave information about the Viva Wyndham Miches project and thanked the government of President Abinader for guaranteeing the first class infrastructure works that will ensure the safety of tourists.
"The tourism sector is going to rise and will be stronger than before", he considered.
Javit Suárez, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewage (INAPA), made the presentation of the Drinking Water and Sewage Management Plan.
